The Final HCEB Forum, Legacy Report and Next Steps

HCEB Final Forum

It was so lovely to see so many people in real life at our last, and what will be our final, Forum on 6th October. Normally open events, this one was a ‘members only’ meeting. Following the overwhelming enthusiasm for in-person attendance, in response to our invitation, we decided to hold the meeting without virtual attendance and give members the opportunity to catch up with each other, as well as hear the HCEB and Heathrow presentations.

I welcomed the chance to be able to say ‘goodbye’ to friends and colleagues in person and I was particularly delighted with the positive response to our Legacy Report, launched at the event. As well as detailing lessons learned and our recommendations for community engagement specifically in relation to major infrastructure projects, it tells our story, much of it through pictures, which led to a lot of reminiscing on the day.

The report is available here I do hope you will find the time to have a look, I think you will find it an interesting read.

Rachel - Chair

HCEB Next Steps

The Forum was an opportunity for attendees to be briefed on the progress being made by Heathrow Airport with its reorganisation and refocusing of community engagement structures and the changes to the HCEB which will see a new name, new chair, and revised focus coming into effect in January 2022.

Many people attending had already taken part in a series of stakeholder consultations as we build on the strengths and successes of the HCEB and also address the new pandemic realities but the Forum created an additional opportunity for dialogue. Those conversations continue.

Although Rachel said goodbye to those present we are fortunate to have the benefit of her continued involvement over the next few months as we put in place the elements which will ensure the successor body is strongly independent and has the tools that allow it to scrutinise Heathrow Airport. One particular enhancement will be the other forums and engagement groups meeting under the successor body. Increasing transparency and effectiveness.
